The Iconic Puzzle Game Didn't Triumph at This Gaming Ceremony — A New Category Could Fix That

Whenever a significant prize-giving event nears, there’s always a demand for the addition of new categories to acknowledge overlooked contributions and fill the hearts of followers who have specialized interests.

My colleague previously argued supporting a scary games classification. That would be fantastic. The same goes for tabletop games, this being a dedicated supporter's campaign. However, I must insist if I try to elbow in front since similar to single-minded supporters, I possess a compelling case backing this proposal remains most pressing and important of all. The demand is this: It's essential to create a category for puzzle games.

Organizing Gaming Categories

Organizing artistic expressions isn't exact; opinions vary greatly, and it will always spark debates and end in fuzzy definitions. It's understandable that movie academies steer clear of genre categories. But it is an essential concession for the industry of interactive entertainment, which are so diverse it's challenging to consider them a single creative category.

For the full spectrum of achievement in video games to be recognized, and for games of all stripes to receive proper recognition, specific award classifications remain vital.

Current Gaming Award Categories

Leading game ceremonies presently include classifications covering Action-oriented games, Action/Adventure, RPG experiences, Fighting, Simulation and strategy titles, and Sports/Racing games. Collectively, these classifications effectively encompass numerous genres, and you can find room for most games within them.

This doesn't apply to puzzle games. No appropriate category exists for their placement. Consider three of recent excellent titles, showing diverse approaches: the architectural riddles of one title, intense tile-matching of another game, thought-provoking social scenarios in another game. Where could they possibly go between these six categories? Nowhere, that’s where.

Recognition Challenges

Many instances occur outstanding logic titles launched regularly lacking appropriate categories in entertainment awards, if they accidentally match classification types such as Handheld titles, VR/AR Game, or the intensely contested Indie races.

  • An iconic brain-teaser got overlooked in any category that year
  • Another imaginative release received no nominations during that ceremony
  • Well-received sorting experience got ignored recently
  • Just some logic titles managed to sneak into small studio or handheld classifications

Value of Brain-Teasers

These are often modest productions, but the art of the puzzle game is of massive significance. Iconic mobile puzzle games count as most popular titles globally and have been for over a decade.

The iconic tile-matching title competes with popular creative games claiming status as highest-selling title ever; it’s also in the running as greatest title ever. Logic titles represent cornerstones for gaming as medium, and they are in conversation across multiple categories.

Recommendation and Reasoning

Puzzle games wouldn’t have that issue. It would be easy to populate multiple candidates engaging, different, qualified experiences annually without trouble — perhaps, with difficulty, given the need to exclude numerous deserving experiences.

Restating the point, these are games without proper classification in important events. Brain-teaser creators operate at the demanding boundary of video game design, developing some of essential manifestations of gaming itself. Just like film action specialists, they deserve recognition. Don't make them wait decades.
