The former champion’s son Campbell delivered an touching tribute through his first public words since his father’s death.
Expressions of sympathy been shared around the sports world and further afield after the death of the ex- world welterweight titleholder, who passed away at his home this past weekend at the age of 46.
“Words can’t express how I feel,” shared his son alongside a series of personal pictures.
“Those who knew us always noted I was your twin – there’s a more accurate word said. I admired you in each part of life.”
He added: “I can’t explain how much I’m going to cherish the laughs we shared and every one of the good moments, that I will hold dear always. Simply can’t fathom we will never have more together. I love you, Dad.”
Local authorities stated that the athletic legend had been pronounced in his residence located in the Manchester area. The department stated that there were no concerning circumstances surrounding the event.
Following in the footsteps of his dad, Campbell too embarked on a profession in boxing, having his paid debut in 2021. He later retired from the industry earlier this year.
On Monday, the relatives of the champion shared a statement expressing that they were “profoundly touched” by the generous display of support and condolences sent their way.
“He was far greater than a world champion. To us, he was only ‘Richard,’ our boy. A caring parent, elder, and brother, and a genuine friend to countless people,” the release said.
“He had a heart as big as his expression, and his generosity, humour, and faithfulness influenced all those blessed enough to know him.
“To the broader world, he will permanently be remembered as one of fighting’s most iconic figures – a individual who put every ounce inside the bouts and showed his emotions on his outside.”
