Energy infrastructure under attack in Ukraine
The country's power facilities have faced increased attacks in recent weeks

Overnight, Russian aerial assaults have resulted in power cuts in extensive areas of the capital city, Kyiv.

Nine people were wounded while residents in eastern districts were experienced blackouts and faced interruptions to water systems, according to city officials.

Meanwhile, a seven-year-old child was fatally injured in a different Russian drone strike in the Zaporizhzhia area in the southeastern part, according to regional authorities.

Moscow has intensified strikes on energy facilities over recent weeks, while Ukrainian leadership has demanded "substantial measures" from allies to apply pressure on Moscow.

"What is required is not symbolic gestures but firm measures - from the US, Europe and the Group of Seven - in supplying air defence systems and applying restrictions," he wrote in a online statement.

Authorities reported that numerous aerial vehicles and over thirty missiles targeted energy facilities, characterizing such assaults as "strategic and deliberate" and against "essential services" as temperatures become colder.

Energy officials said Moscow was "launching a major assault" and technical staff were laboring to fix the damage.

A series of attacks damaged electrical systems and apartment buildings in Kyiv.

Several of the people injured in the assaults on the city have been taken to hospital, according to city authorities.

Local officials said the metropolitan region endured significant strikes overnight. A minor lost their life and several individuals were injured.

The assaults come after periods of bombing campaigns in the area, sections of which are occupied by Russian forces.

The entire country is on alert for sophisticated projectile assaults, which are tougher to detect.

Government officials told the media that Russia was intentionally trying to damage the electrical infrastructure, with assaults already impacting fuel infrastructure.

Officials stated technical personnel and government agencies were anticipating more assaults.
