One teenage youth was found dead just days following being falsely accused of taking the ashes of a dead infant during a burglary, a coroner's inquiry has learned.

Heartbreaking Discovery

Kai Lloyd's mother and father discovered his remains in his bedroom at his Flintshire residence on November 19th, 2021.

False Accusations Start

The investigation learned how his mother received a communication on 8 November 2021 via online platforms, from a individual inquiring if Kai was her offspring. The communication added: "Tell him appreciation for breaking into my apartment."

In a statement read to the proceedings, the mother said the woman had been in the media, asserting her infant's ashes had been taken in a break-in - a claim which was untrue.

Police Investigation

An official inquiry from police later determined the supposed break-in complainant had "lied to police" and "evidence shows that the property was not taken in the first place".

Media reports about the alleged taken ashes generated online comments, and although Kai was not named in the posts, his parent said individuals "understood it was him".

The "social media content were extremely distressing", she stated.

Emotional Wellbeing Impact

She explained that her son had been identified with moderate attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, and as part of that disorder, other individuals' views really were important to him.

"This must have hurt him deeply," she said, "especially when this was not true".

Kai was detained at his residence, but no evidence was discovered. He was taken to a law enforcement facility and later freed under investigation.

Police said they would be in touch, the hearing heard, but had not contacted the relatives by the moment of his death.

Isolation and Worry

His mother said Kai "withdrew into himself" after the arrest and "would keep asking me whether I had heard anything from the authorities", because his ADHD meant sometimes "certain periods could feel like much longer".

The proceedings heard that a 19-year-old encouraged Kai to kill himself.

She had no worries on the evening before he passed away, explaining how she had listened to him "laughing and teasing".

She portrayed him as a "compassionate, affectionate" boy, and said her "relatives is totally shattered".

He had been "obviously concealing his concerns", she stated, noting that he could not stand to have anyone "think bad of him".

Educational Reaction

The inquest received testimony from school staff at Connah's Quay secondary school.

On 8 November, she "overheard some students talking that the student had been arrested and that was the first I learned".

"He told me... he'd was innocent," she added.

After the conversation, the staff member said she rang the family's parents' landline and left a message saying she had spoken to the student about the allegations.

The court heard his parents said they did not got that communication.

Formal Finding

Senior coroner told the inquest he would await documents regarding what improvements had been made to dealing with individuals with the condition, before deciding whether he should make a avoidance of subsequent fatalities report.

Providing a descriptive conclusion, he stated: "Approximately November 8th, 2021, unsupported accusations were made against the teenager, a young individual.

"Probably untruths were subsequently exaggerated and amplified through the platform of social media.

"During 11 November, he was questioned by the police and after his questioning he was released while inquiries continued."

The official determined: "Exists no evidence that the acts or failures of any agency led to or contributed to his death and although it was the result of a self-inflicted act it is not possible to determine his purpose."
